Sunday Brunch - Richmond Hill Cafe & Larder

It's been so long since I've added a post but thankfully, I haven't had stopped 'eating'. Eenjoying the Sunday afternoon having brunch with a dear friend who equally shares your passion is just the perfect to start the first weekend into the new year.

The Lot: Perfectly scrambled eggs (so hard to find, so satisfying to savour). The eggs were of the best texture, layared sheets, well seasoned and beautifully decorated. The touch of parsley gave it a lovely coloured, warming the palate as you pick into the eggs, but not too much that you'll actually taste the strong flavours of it. Nothing can go wrong from now when the most important bit is right. Buttered herbed mushroom - plump, juicy, flavourfull. Smoked bacon - well done to complete the meal over grilled honey multigrain toast

The Vegetarian Lot: Perfectly poached eggs, soft centre neatly encased by the whole white accompanied by ripe avocado, although the dish originally comes with buttered spinach which would have been delightful had they had it.

The perfect finish to the perfect brunch.

French Apple Tart with Marsala Ice cream

I was very impressed with the tart. Firstly, it's very substantial. The generous amount of moist crisped apples gave the tart so much richness. Delicately sliced apples on top of stewed caramelised apple chunks over a delicate base, surrounded with a firm crumbly crust, accompanied with a uniqued marsala ice cream and good coffee. Gold.

The aim is to return and try the ever popular cheesy toast and buttermilk pancakes with cinnamon maple. I'm very grateful that Yii Vern took the time to share this Sunday with me because good company for good food is an absolute blessing, and what more can I ask but girlfriend shopping to follow! :)

French Apple Tart
In comparison, this was an apple tart that I had the week before at Touk, Seddon. It's nice because it's fresh, made to order with a 20min wait and came with honey pistachio ice cream (though that was my special request) but unlike RHCL, this had no delicacy. The apples where big pieces instead of fine slices, not as easy to eat, not as much flavour although I their blueberry brulee was very beautiful. Cracking the top is always so delightful.
